Introducing: David Cable

Right, I’ve been here a couple of weeks now and I’m getting hounded to create a blog post, so I thought I’d give it a go! Suppose I’d best start as to how I got here. It wasn’t the most straight forward route, from Marketing Coordinator to Camp Councillor in USA to Estate Agent for the past four yeaars, finally ending up here. The one thing that has been consistent throughout my career however has been the want to understand things and then try to improve them – so SEO seems to be the perfect fit. It wasn’t something I randomly came across, I have studied Marketing at Northampton so do have a basic understanding, but it was through podcasts that I really drilled down to what area of Marketing I wished to pursue. (The best one I’ve found so far has been SEM Synergy) I knew with a degree in Marketing it gave me a broad spectrum for what type of role I wished to pursue, but I wanted to understand what was the best way to get into Marketing and work out how I could get into that key area – Online Marketing. Luckily I seem to have landed on my feet here at iThinkMedia and I am trying my hardest to understand things and try to improve them for the clients we work with. So far I have been working hard on link building for a few different clients, notably Techinstyle.tv that I am very much enjoying. But I’m not going to kid myself, I have loads to learn – but I’m glad it’s finally things I actually want to learn, it makes a massive difference to previous jobs. It was frustrating analysing how things worked in my previous roles, having come up with ways to improve things only to be told it’s not possible or there are too many people who must approve the idea that they might as well leave it. Not here at iThinkMedia. Here things are great, ideas are encouraged, opinions are counted and things are growing. With growing comes learning. So I am to become a regular ‘blogger’ whereby I am going to write about my progression with iThinkMedia, with things such as ‘What I’ve Learnt This Month’, the resources I’ve used along the way and anything else I feel notable. As I am just starting out on my journey as an SEO Executive I want to ask if anyone has any suggestions for more things I should be learning so I can be a ‘super executive’?! Any people to follow on Twitter? Sites to keep up-to-date with? Anything that is going to help me progress. I hope to be inundated with suggestions, otherwise, this is me signing off.
