As planned over the last few weeks Google have started to bring into action the new formatting for the top Google ads. All adverts with a complete sentence including correct punctuation on each line of the standard text ad format will be automatically extended to having a longer title separated by a hyphen. This rule is shown below when searching for the term “blackberry torch”.
As seen in the example above the advert for the orange mobile store has a much longer title when compared to the ads above and below it. This is due to the new ad display format for the top adwords ads. As the description line 1 of text is a complete sentence with correct punctuation and a full stop, Google has put it next to the title separated by a hyphen. The question now is whether you should design your adverts so that when they appear in the top positions this formatting is active. In the above example I have also highlighted an advert that has been designed for this to happen. Should you be changing all of your adverts with a high average position to fit the formatting rules? Or will this have adverse effects on your current adverts? I believe that it will be valuable to have a re shuffle of your top ranking adverts to ensure you don’t get left behind. Only time will tell if this will positively or negatively affect your campaigns performance. What are your thoughts?
